Recycling Project

In Greece, although the  concept of recycling is widespread, unfortunately it is not applied in practice as it should be. One of the most important issues is the lack of public awareness and participation to the various recycling programs organized by Municipalities.

It has been reported that in Greece less than 30% of the population of one Municipality is ultimately actively involved in recycling programs.
Adults are difficult to train and sensitize regarding their participation in recycling programs when environment-friendly behavior has not been fostered from childhood.
For this purpose Halyps, within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility has designed a recycling program intended for schools. It is known that values are formed at a young age and this is what motivates this program in order to raise the awareness and mobilize young people to actively participate in paper recycling.
Halyps acquired recycling bins which were placed in schools of the Municipality of Aspropyrgos.
In addition, educational programs (educational sessions) are organized in cooperation with the schools where students grouped in teams of 20-25 are trained relative to their active participation in recycling programs.
This program is implemented in cooperation with the European Recycling Center which provides the trainers and is in charge for collecting the recyclable paper.
The aim of the program is to address to students one of the most important problems of our era, that of waste management and especially of paper.

More specifically the aims are to:
  • Raise awareness on the usefulness of recycling and on the reduction of waste.
  • Make students understand the necessity of citizens participating in the efforts to preserve and protect the environment.
  • Promote the active involvement in paper recycling of students, professors and people passing by.
  • Another aim is for students to develop those skills in order to:
  • Collect – evaluate – analyze information
  • Design and carry out activities
  • Participate in teams
  • Suggest and resolve problems
  • Raise awareness in their families

Therefore it becomes obvious that the above-mentioned program succeeds in educating children and families towards adopting an environment-friendly behavior, thus creating a positive domino effect for the society.
